dear sirs, i am in search of some honest answers.
i hope you will bear with me. It's 5:00 am in Wisconsin. I've been on hundreds of tractor sites all night.20 years ago my father-in-law was gonna sell this rusty old jd h just because he didn't use it anymore. i said "dad could i buy it. he was asking $500 for it . I told him it might only be a dollar aweek but seeing as how i was the only woman ever to sit it i was attached to it. Well he up and gave it to me.course we had to haul it from Maine to Wis.
it had some home made semi wheels on the back but i didn't care. over the years my husband has restored it pretty much back to original. i sold my ford truck just so i could get new rims for the back. now i have all matching rims front and back-all new rubber it runs great. I've taken three parade awards with it and also taken it to the grandkids school/stuff like that. Well for the last five years dads health has really failed
he's had one leg took off. then just the day after thanksgiving mom had a heart attack. she's at home though. well the thing is they can't handle the wood stove no more so we want to get a furnace put in asap. getting back to the H i want to sell it to get the furnace money. it's a 1940 that was bought in late 1939 about four years ago a john deere guy said i could easily get $2500 for it but that was before the new rubber and the cast rims (front) i would like to ask $3000 for it . the thing is I don't want someone to cheat me just because i'm a woman. but i want to be fair about it too. a guy from arkansas i talk to last night said i should be able to get the $3000 for it. the furnace is like $1700 but then it has to be installed and i would like to put a little in the bank so we could take a trip out there to help. I can't seem to get anybody local to give me an honest answer even though they have seen the tractor running and working. It will need a new paint touch up because we have used it to bring in wood. but it's not bad. my husband says it would look better with new grill panels cause mine have a couple of dents in them other than that it's a pretty little tractor I can try to send a picture but i'm not real good on this computer. It's getting hard for me to us e the H anyway because i can't turn the flywheel anymore by myself so it would of better use to us as a way to purchase the furnace. do you have the time to send me your honest opinion. i would be grateful.

I agree with what has been said both as far as the value and the part about what the tractor has meant to your family. Is there any other way to raise the money?? Home equity loan, personal loan, anything else to sell????? ???

Give it to your grandkids. They will appreciate the history. Maybe not now, but they will later. Borrow the money in form of a home equity loan. You will be much happier.

Great story--I agree with the guy's that say find another way if at all possible. I have a 1940 H setting in the barn that I am going to restore--it is really rough and I gave $1800.00 for it. If you must sell it try to find someone who appreciates its history. Wish I were closer I would gladly try to help

I have had many H's over the years bought and sold many. I could never just quite ever get $3,000 for anyone of them until just a few years ago I was finally able to sell one for #3,000. So I would say that if you can get that much for yours that price is about right even today. Let me also add that chances are you are going to regret selling it later given it's history.I'd find another way to get the furnace.

I agree 100% with Mike. I've been looking for an H for maybe two years. They seem to go between 2 and 3000 unrestored. So I think 3000 with new tires, assuming the tin is straight is probably in line. $2500 would probably be low end and $3000 high end.

I also agree that given the history of this tractor that you are going to regret selling it, especially if you have a son or daughter you can pass it along to.

I agree with everything Mike and Jay have said; I know that sometimes require tough choices and tough measures, but if there is any other possible way, try to hang on to the H.
