Can I run my old Farmall tractors on UNLEADED gasoline? For years I used the lead additive and now my old tractor friends tell me that is not necessary.

If you really want to lube valves cheap and safely mix 1 cup of non dertergant motor oil with each tank of gas this will work fine .

Thank you Leland. That is certainly easy enough to do. I use that oil in my tractors anyway.
Best wishes.

The reason for using lead is to protect the valve seats. However, your engine has plenty of lead deposits already.

Aircraft engines still use leaded gas. Most of the engine rebuilders recommend that if you do run unleaded gas, you should break the engine in on avgas. After the engine is run for 25 hours on leaded fuel, it will have sufficient lead deposits to last until the next overhaul.

The so-called lead additives don't do anything. If you really want to add lead to your fuel, go to the airport and pick up a few gallons of 100LL (100 octane low lead) avgas. Mix it with unleaded regular and you'll be good to go.

Many thanks to all that replied to my UNLEADED gasoline question. For years I had the delivery guy put the lead additive in as he filled my tank. I had heard it was the thing to do. However, the additive has become extremely costly and folks are telling me the lead additive is not necessary, as 4 recent replies have indicated here. I work my Farmall 400 hard only about 3 days a year fitting ground. The Super-A and the AC-G are for cultivating only, and the 200 is for snow plow work at the farm driveway. Guess it's no more lead additive for them! Thanks all.

All that lead stuff is good for is to waste your money and make a company rich. As low as the compression is and as slow as tractor engine run the lead stuff is a waste of time and $$. Plus it doesn't even have any lead in it any ways

Thanks Mark. I have a 51' VAC & now a 47' B, and they are all original and do not work as they used to. I wanted to hear what others had to say
on the other board. Yes I do use unleaded but they are to do lite jobs only. Have diesels for long hours. Clay.

I've been using unleaded in my Farmalls since mid 70s. They are neither high rpm nor high performance engines.

Your tractors will run just fine on unleaded gasoline. Doesn't make any difference if you are playing with the them or working them hard, unleaded will be just fine.

Is like dejavoo. Someone just posted the same subject over at the Deere board. The answer is yes. The debate will be whether or not you need to add a lead additive. The one gas tractor that I have, an AC-B, I never have. It gets used, doesn't sit pretty, but doesn't get beat, that's for sure. I guess that it's on easy street these days, as compared to years gone by. Will it come back to bite me in the rearend? Might be, but so far I see no indication that it will. I always give that little puppy a pat on the hood when I finish for being "Ol' Reliable" again.
