Hi Guys,

Two days ago, I was cryin' and whinnin' 'bout "No end of the tunnel in sight". Now, after two long days of fixen, flushin', adjustin' and tinkerin', I've just about worked myself out of a job. All systems are go and we're gettin' closer all the time.

I wish you fellas could hear this tractor run. I thought for sure it would need an engine. After a major tune up and replacin' that totally, 100% plugged air cleaner, all signs of "bad engine" have disappeared. She clicks 'em off like a new sewin' machine now.

Gotta get that transmission leak fixed in at the red shop, then I think it is about time to think about puttin' some perfume on this old pig. 'Course, that's when the work really starts. :>)

Hope ya all had a good one today,

Allan

Mornin' Glenn,

Darned if I know. Must be somewhere around 50 or so? 'Bout as close as you can come to a utility without the exhaust underneith. :>)

It's the same sized outfit as the IH 656, 666 686 but it has the hydro transmission and a 6-pop gas engine.

Allan, I've bought a lot of old tractors that had "big problems", and have to say, way more turned out to be "better than I thought" than "worse than I thought"- There was just some pretty good engineering in most of these old gals, and it often turns out to be a fairly straightforward lack of maintenance in a "wear item", rather than a mechanical disaster, that brings them down. So saying, of course, the next one I try to rescue will be a major diffugelty when I thought new points and plugs would bring it around. . . :<)

Allan, I'm just havin' a hard time figuring out whether you are that good or that lucky. Course I realize that you put the sweat into 'em and spend the bucks necesssary to get em' revived but come on, don't you have to take a turn in the dunk tank with the rest of us one time? Just a passing thought. Migraine

I'll tell ya, My Friend,

I don't understand it either. These things are just droppin' out of the sky for me on this second farmin' go-round.

Somebody else is definitely pullin' the strings for me on this run of luck, no doubt about it 'cause I'm too darned dumb to know any better. :>)

I've had wrenches in my hand since I was six years old, but I wish someone would explain to me how just replacin' a clogged air filter would absolutely stop an engine from blowin' blue smoke out the exhaust? I dunno, maybe the rings were just stuck and they freed up from use 'er something??

It's got me totally dumbfounded. :>(

"I wish someone would explain to me how just replacin' a clogged air filter would absolutely stop an engine from blowin' blue smoke out the exhaust"

When the piston goes down on the intake stroke it has got to pull something from somewhere and if it isn't air through the intake it will be oil through the valve guides or oil past the rings or antifreeze from the head gasket I suppose.

Allen I think you are having way too much fun. Personally I have 5 tractors on 10 acres and I don't think I have too many save having to hook and unhook equipment.

Sure makes a big difference in a guys outlook don't it buddy. To go from "Oh good grief, to Oh boy, now that's better." Glad it's coming togetheer for you. I got to admit I was pretty worried about you mental health there for awhile about gettin one a them automatic transmission tractors. They just always scared me till they got the bugs outa them. Hi Pard,

Well, the reason I got it is because I've just never owned one before and wanted to see what all the hub-bub was about.

I was prepared to drop a new tranny in it, but they tell me that it just has a common ol' leak at the motor servo and won't cost me the big bucks like I was thinkin'.

'Sides, this way maybe I can get the wife to do the chores. :>)

Onwards and upwards as they say,

Allan

'get the wife to do the chores'
That would make it her tractor then wouldn"t it?
You then have one more to go till you hit the limit

Hi Kent,

New pads, yes. The rest of the ironworks were okay; even the jounce bumpers. Had to replace one bushing in the frame.
