In the last week I bought an Oliver 3x16 three point plow.Plow seems to be in very good shape and turns the sod over well. Problem is when I have to back up the three point hitch arm on the right side hits the rear tractor tire. Do I have to move the rear tire out or shorten the chain on the other side? By the way Im using a massey 175. Thanks Lou

Lou: To start with the sway chains are for nothing more than keeping plow from hitting tractor when plow is raised. Neither one should have any tension while plowing. You 3x16 plow requires a wheel tread setting of close to 66", center to center. That is aproximate as width of tire will affect this a bit. There is a chart published by most manufacturers giving distance from center line of tractor to inside of right rear tire. The distance is different for both number of bottoms plus width of cut of each bottom. There is a copy of this in the YT archives, somewhere. I had a copy for years but lost it when I moved.

If your first bottom is cutting 14 inches wide you need to tighten up the sway chains. If not wheel needs to be moved out.

Ill check the width of the first furrow. I would of thought it should be 16 inches? Also the tractor is pulling to the right at times, which made me suspect the wheel is too close and the first plow is having trouble cutting in. Thanks Lou

Your right first bottom should cut 16 inches.
