i want to buy a tractor and the emblem on it says m but the old man says it is really a super m. the serial tag # reads 43552. it has 3 weights on each rear wheel that are like 4 inches thick that appear to be factory installed. it has an immaculte wide front end. the battery is under the gas tank and it also has a smaller fuel tank that has rusted out. is there a way to know what this farmall really is. help please? it doesnt have power steering and i know that it doesnt have a hydraulic at the distributor. i know a little about tractors but not about m or super m's. so is there a way i can know for sure.. alan king

Alan,

The Serial # 43552 is for a 1941 M Farmall. The super M were not built until late 1952 and production in 1953. NO WAY is it a super M even the brakes for a super M were not available on a 1941 model, but that could have been upgraded later as could the engine. IF it does not say SM on the serial # it is not a Super M.
And M is almost as good do don't let the Super stop you. Good tractor to have.

Some guys will give an M a super M engine and claim its a super M tractor. The end result still an M but with more horsepower.

Look on the serial tag. If it is a super M, the number will have a prefix SM 43552. If the prefix is FBK 43552, it is a regular 'ol M. Your description leads me to believe the tractor is just an M, not a super M.

The "extra tank" leads me to believe its a dual fuel or a distillant tractor. Not many of those made after 1947 or so, indicating it is a regular "M". Post your question on the Farmall forum, someone there can tell you what you have down to the month built in short order. The serial number leads me to think its a 1941 model.
