I'm looking for a wide front end for a H model farmall. It has a narrow front now. I have an opportunity to purchase one for about 200.00, Is this a fair price? and is it worth putting a wide front on the tractor? Thanks

J,

$200 is way, way cheap if it is not welded or cracked.

This new one cost me a heck of lot more than that and it came without tires, wheels or bearings.

Is it worth putting on? It is up to you and depends what you are going to use the tractor for.

The price is a lot less than they usually go for. It is easy to change but I like the narrow front just as well. You may want to consider buying it and selling for about $450 or $500. Non experienced operators consider the wide safer.

MB,

I'm sure this fella would argue with you if he could. Trouble is, experienced or not, dead men can't give their opinion.

That is a good reminder of narrow front, or not, to be careful out there fellas. Allan, D.J Was a good friend of mine and loved that old tractor. The day or so before that happened he had helped me move an old F-20. He was working on his pilots licence and had God, his family and cattle washing through his veins. Two kids and a wonderful wife Kathy, still seem in a daze. I'm glad to see the accident report. I hated to ask Kathy about it. I know a lot of farmers that love their tractors. D.J. actually waxed his. He liked to find old like new equipment for his farm. I never met a fellow that took better care of his equipment. I flew him to SD a couple of times to look at a haybine the summer he died.

Mornin' Bill,

Yep, I know I come off as "mouthy" on this subject, but nothing makes my blood boil faster.

Lost two neighbors under these old tractors and the danger is very, very real.

Naw not mouthy at all. This stuff happens to good people, experenced operators and worst of all fathers, spouces and friends. It is a good heads up and I have enjoyed thinking about D.J. this morning. That 560 would have been washed after he moved the dirt. It was just the way he was. He was kind of a cross between Howard and yourself to my thinking. Bill
