I think it would be nice to know how many vets there are on and when they served.
1974-1980 U.S. Navy Went in because my draft card was 1A and figured I'd join so I could more or less pick where and what I might be doing. I was and E.T. by the way. Boy do I hate working on eletronics but yet that was what I did.

Graduated from high school in June,1957 was 1A for the draft. Local guard unit convinced me to join up for their 6 month program. Went in and wound up in 3rd Army,3rd Ordnance,Direct Auto motive Support unit Ft.Campbell,Ky. Was then released back to the local unit. Moved to another town hooked up with USAR and then was recalled in the last month of my reserve time, for the Cuban missle crisis with the 2A 111 Signal Bn.Ft Meade Md. No real danger time served, but did give me a deeper respect for the guys & gals who did their time in harms way. Hats off to all of them!! Gene Davis s//n24799600 .

Me too. US Army 1981 - 1986. No wars or battles, but was there just the same.

Thank God for all of those men and women that served, and those that fought and died to preserve our freedoms. I thank each and every last one of you and them. May God bless.

Got in too late last night from IL to go on line, but figured someone here'd have it covered, and someone did. Thanks for asking. It brought a smile to my face. Gettin light out now, gotta get the show on the road. Have a great day, and life enjoying our freedoms, and never let 'em go. Never ever let 'em go.

US Navy 1986 thru 1992. Served two years on the William V Pratt (DDG44) out of Charleston, two years onboard the USS America (CV66) out of Norfolk on which I got to ride out the Gulf War. The rest of my time got spread between school in Great Lakes, Norfolk, and shore duty in Ingleside, TX. There were alot of good times as well as bad times...still the good times and good buddies are alot more memorable than any of the bad ones. To those of you that actually served your time and lost many of your good buddies in the "real wars" I say THANK YOU.

I guess i sort of am a vet. 1977-1981 US Army, then 2 years in the guards. Not recognized by most vet orgs because I didn't serve in war. No benefits for education, or anything. Then they canceled unemployment when I got out, said I quit my job.

I lucked out. All of our deployments took me there when the weather was relatively good. First 9 days of first deployment were the worst, 30 knots, rain and about 40 degrees all day every day. Then it cleared up & we had light winds & mid 50's the rest of the trip. Later deployments were always in May, June or July & weather wasn't bad. One year, however, some of our guys went earlier than me & were confined to quarters for 4 or 5 days due to a blizzard.

US Army 1953-1958 - Infantry - PVT E1 to 1LT 02. Joined Army Guard. Went to flight school. Activated with Guard unit for Berlin Crises in 1961. Stayed on active duty afterward. Assigned to research and development. Got to fly all sorts of "conceptual contraptions". Instructed at the primary helicopter school. Eventually went into civilian flying (airline). Stayed with Army Guard until 1989 when I retired. Altogether, I served in no less than seven US Army divisions and "visited" just about every state in the union and two foreign countries courtesy of our famous uncle. It was a hoot.

I was A-1, the draftboard was dragging their feet, I could not get a job other then helping some farmer put up bales of hay, nobody wanted to hire someone and train then, and then have them drafted, so I enlisted. Made Corpral, but was doing Seargeants work, so they gave me a black arm band with Seargeants strips to wear.

I also had the draft board breathing down my neck, and wanted a choice of what I did. Had a lot of good times, and would do it again. Stan

Missouri Army National Guard, spent almost 12 years total, 83-93, then reenlisted after 9/11, spent about 10 months guarding an ammo plant near Blue Springs, Missouri, off active duty for 6 months, then off to Iraq, spent 7 months in Baghdad. We had 33 purple hearts out of 140 of us, but we were lucky in that nobody was killed.
