Hi, had a neighbor plant 5 acres of wheat for me in Ohio about 3 weeks ago. Ground was disked first, but neighbor planted when the soil was a bit too wet. Whereever his rear tractor tires went, the drill didnt go in very deep or at all. I had a lot of seed on top of the ground or 1/4 inch deep. It sprounted and has a good root system, but the kernal is on top of ground.

WIll this make it through an OHio winter? Will it yield much where the seed is on top of the ground?

Depends on how cold it gets and how much freeze and thawing you get in the spring. If you have a lot of snow cover it will help. Missed a couple small strips a few years ago and went back in without tilling and redrilled. The wheat all came up, but we had little snow cover and ALL the replant died (Central Illinois). However since we are continuing to have a mild autumn, perhaps it will grow enough root to survive. Ask Ed Winkle on AgTalk.
