A friends father recently passed on and his son asked if I would be interested in buying his old Farmall Super MTA. It is set up to run a grain auger off an aux.pump off the pto. No three point. Tricycle type. It has been stored for 15-20 years. What to look for and what do I do prior to trying to start it?

Woodrow231.....it doesn't sound like you know anything about the Farmall letter series tractors!

that SMTA Farmall was only made one year, 1954...
there can be costly repairs, but a collector for sure.....you didn't say the price but if in good condition I would guess in Southern Ohio --- $3500.....

Well if it hasn't been run in 15-20 years the first thing I'd do before even tring to turn the engine over, would be to fill the cylinders with tranny fluid and let it sit a couple days. Doing that helps unstick rings and valves and lubes the cylinder so you not dry staring it.

If you get it running ,better check to see if the TA works, costly repairs and a pain in behind, probably doesn't have power steering and the MTA is a bummer to steer if it doesn't have it, I don't see all the buzz with the MTA , ours is a crappy tractor, I'd take an M anyday. Uncle
