My dad hit a deer a couple years back w/ his 01 Toyota Tacoma. Damn near totaled it out, almost the whole front clip had to be replaced. My brother was driving my truck when it was still my dad's (88 F150) He hit a deer going about 35. It pushed in the bumper a little, bent the metal under the grill and caused a leaky radiator. Never did fix the bumper, and it's not too noticable. Since then I've hit a big orange construction cone going about 65-70 on the right side and it broke the turn signal lense. I bought a new one, just never put it in....

On Friday Oct. 28th I was about 2 miles from town and 5 from home, still dark at 6:35am before time change, going home after night shift. WHAM!!!
Happened so fast it was over before I knew what it was. Just saw a flash of brown, felt / heard impact and heard hard plastic from grill crunch under the tires. New front bumper and spoiler, grill, driver headlight assembly, drivers front fender and drivers door are what my body man has told me it will take to get started, says always finds more stuff broken when they tear off the old stuff. Insurance says $50.00 deductible because it was an act of nature. Body shop has a 4 week back log due to recent storm damage in area. I stopped and looked at deer (doe) going back to work and she was a big deer for this part of the country and looked to be a prime breeding specimen....oh well, it aint nothing that time and $$$ wont fix.

The deer are really out and about this time of year doing their thing. Darkness later in AM and earlier in PM doesn't help. I slow down in areas of poor sight lines along town and county roads. Also keep the roadsides mowed way back to discourage game from "hanging out" right beside the road. The environmental and Bambi wackos had a fit over that but I've convinced the county it's the wise thing to do. They've gone from little tractors with sickle bars to bigger tractors with dual flail mowers. Cut way back off the side of the road to keep grass and brush down to give drivers a little more time to react.

I have been traveling home every afternoon on the Natchez Trace Parkway and see deer all over the place. Since the time has changed I go a different route because I cannot see them at dusk or after dark. We sure have to watch out for them. I'm glad noone was injured.
Later,
Jerry

News last night-Wisconsin motorcyclist taken to hospital in serious condition , single vehicle accident(motorcycle) with locked brakes indicated and deer involved. Had deer/motorcycle incident at BMW rally few years back - rider in hospital still at end of rally. I had to dodge deer a couple times on Goldwing getting off work at midnight- had some tail hairs on side of fairing. decide to take pickup to work, hit one next week, crumpled fender, broken light- would have been some magor dammage on cycle. This time of year is dangerous. RN

She got lucky. Last friday, Oct.28, my dad was rooling down the highway in his 2003 ford crown victoria and a deer came out of the ditch and ran right into the right front fender at the tire. It smashed the turn signal light, fender, and front door. The back door and rear fender had scuffs and scratches all the way to the back. $3800.00 in body work to fix it. The car has 16,791 miles on it.

Wayne2, the guys in jail over in Forks Wa bout 20 yrs ago were complaining about all the elk, deer and other critters they were being fed. Confiscated illegal kills, roadkill etc were brought to them. At the same time the poor were begging for a chance at some of it.

Hey Coldiron, had a sister and family live in Forks 20 to 25 years ago. BIL owned his own logging truck, sister had a Novelty store there. Man it has been a long time since I heard that name...

She was driveing our 1991 Goe tracker and if I hadn't seen it I would not believe how tuff those little cars are. I hit a with a road roller a few years ago and all it did was put a small dent in it that time and now her and the deer. Took the plunger out and now no more dent. Only thing I wish was that the deer hadn't run off, so could use the meat in the freezer.

Well I know on/after the 12th of this month if I see a buck that should be a 4 point but only has 3 points he will. Season opens here on the 12th, I hope to fill the freezer this year.

Never hit a deer but did get run into by a horse. Totaled the horse and killed the van. It was the horses fault. The horse was speeding,he didnt have his head lights on and he was on the wrong side of the road. I wasnt injured. steveormary
