Hmmmmm,

I didn't think to look 'fore I wrote the check and now I find that this old tractor has 13.6 X 38 tires on a 13" rim. Should have 15.5 X 38s mounted on a 14" rim.

Tire shop says that they can "fudge" and mount the 15.5s on the 13" rim, fill with fluid and get away with it.

Whadda think?

The hardest thing this old tractor will ever do is maybe pull a baler or mower; most of the time it will just set under a loader.

Thanks,

Allan

I'm sure the 15.5s will be just fine. I bought new 14" rims for my DC CASE and put 15.5s on them. They look like a 13" rim would be no problem. Glenn F.

Do the 15.5"s They will be fine. I just put 15.5"s on a 16" wheel. Very nice indeed.

If they are 13 in rims, I'd really consider putting 14.9's on them. Will cost about the same as 15.5's but 14.9's actually have a bigger ground contact area than 15.5's and stand taller and hold a wee bit more calcium for even more weight.

Allen, to be correct, you should put 14.9x38's on that rim. I think the 15.5's are going to wear in the middle on ya. Have a good one, John

Your existing 13.6x38 is actually a 12 inch tire, on a 13 inch rim. One inch undersize. New 15.5x38 will be an inch oversize, and look really COOL!

Thanks ol' Bud,

That must be why the silly rims look okay; IE the right size fer the tractor, but the tires just don't look right.

Derned things stand straight up and down 'er somethin. :>)

The shop is correct. The 15.5 tire is the old size 14 inch, measured at the rim. 15.5 is the bulge measurement- widest part of the tire. Old adage was you can safely go one inch wider or narrower than actual rim width, so a 13 inch rim can mount a 14 inch tire (15.5x 38), without it looking funny or operating poorly. Will still put down a decent footprint and give good traction. Also holds more fluid to counterbalance your loader load.

Allan;

I had H size tires and an M that was setting under an F10 Farmhand loader. Used loader mostly for cleaning up cow pottie. Never had a problem with tires. What ever works.
