on the 966 hydro i work with daily the handle goes forward for low and back for high.another thing is she likes a lot of rpms and there is a blue line on the forward side of the hydro leaver that it don't like to be run above.any other questions drop me a line and i will look on the tractor or in one of the manuals.

Hi Tom,

That's what this old manual I have says....I sure don't know. It says "Forward fer work and back fer the road".

If I ever get it out of the shop, I guess I'll find out. :>)

Thanks,

Allan

Hi Howard,

The only thing I have is my old owner's manual on the 656 from 'bout a million years gone by. :>(

Are the tractors that much different? This is the first gasser hydro I've ever laid eyes on, let alone owned.

Is that hi-lo handle on the right in "Hi" range when it is pulled back and Lo when it's forward?

All I know is that it sounds like an old 6-pop International truck. Where's the knockin' sound? Where's the smoke? :>)

high range is pushed forward and low is pulled back. i've always been told to never shift between high/low when moving so i never have.

Thanks Casey,

The darned knob is gone off the shifter and I never thought to get it up to speed to get a feel fer it.

So, it shifts completely backwards from a 656 Hydro then? (according to my book)

Yes Sir,

I looked at that one, but passed on it because of that darned MPH thing going on.

Isn't that the model that if the MPH meter doesn't work, it means that the bearings are out of the ring gear and the teeth are too far away from the speed sensor to register? Only fix is a new ring gear/pinion kit?

Dunno fer sure, but it scared me,

Allan
