My farmell 200 will not start, unless I jump start it. Once it starts, it will run and restart all day long. The next day it will not start. I think there must be something wrong in the charging system. any help would be good. thanks.

you need a hydrometer test of your battery cells then maybe new 1ga cables sounds like batt is weak or cables but when motor is warm starts better.

Does it crank, but not start, or not crank over with the starter (or only slowly)?

Hi Howard, A simple test is to connect a volt meter across the battery terminals when tractor is running. If the system is charging, it should read just over the rated system voltage (ie 6volt or 12volt)which would indicate a battery problem. If the reading is under the rated system voltage it indicates a charging problem. From what you have said it sounds more like the battery.

To add to what the other guy said. When you pull the one battery cable watch for a small spark, if you can do it just before dark so you can see it real easy. If you see a spark then you have a short some where

You might have a short or a sticking voltage regulator which is draining the battery, but I would first suspect a bad battery. Next time you shut it down, remove one of the battery cables and see if your battery is dead the next morning. If so, there's your sign! Bad battery!!!

Try disconnecting the positive cable and connect a test light between the battery post and cable. If the light is lit something is drawing current. If so, disconnect things until the light goes out and then you know where to start. If not you have a bad battery, more than likely.
