I had a ford 901 with 5 speed. I think the speed was like 14 mph. I would like to get either a 801 or a jubilee or something like that but I need to use it to move snow about 2 miles away. I want a tractor with some speed. What should I look for? I don't want a selecto-speed. Does the sherman transmission add mph? Thanks to anyone that helps!

A Sherman auxiliary trans (over, under, or combo) cannot be made to fit on a 5 speed Ford. You must look for a 4 speed model if you intend to add a Sherman overdrive.

I have an 801 with sherman 3 speed. I was driveing it to a friends place and my wife was behind me in a car. I asked her how fast I got it up to and she said a little over 35MPH and if the steering had been better I probably could have gotten 40 plus out of it. Steering is where the probelm is with a tractor and speed

A 841-12 speeds provides around 22 mph. I heard that some Jubilee 12 speeds can reached over 30 mph(not verified myself) but I am sure it was not a Sherman Over-direct-under.

Our old Sherman hi-lo equipped Jubilee ran 31mph flat out(according to police :( radar). This was with slightly oversize rear tires from the 860.But unless the front end/steering is solid, tight and rear tires are loaded,I wouldn't recommend it....that ole girl could get "spooky" REAL quick on a rough spot or gravel road.I believe the rated speed with stock rubber in 4 hi was 26/28mph.
