Hi guys...Allen, hope your wife is doing well. Prayers work great don't they?
Ok...here goes. I went to a sale Saturday morning. Didn't really go to buy a lot, they had a metal lathe I was intrested in...it went too high for me, but.
I stuck around to see what my friend got...and just could not pass 2 bids.
First is a IH 450D. I have one, but figured it would be good for parts. It has 4 new tires and rims on it. Runs well...typical seaps and leaks here and there. It may just be better than the one I have.
Second was a JD 50. The guy flooded it and it would not start. Again, I have one but like the Farmall...4 new tires, looks rough, runs sweet. We pulled it to start it and it really runs nice.
Now, I have to think...ok, do I add them to the list to clean and paint, or do I leave them in their work clothes? If I keep the 450D, it has to earn it's keep. I would put a bushog on it and mow pasture with it. I know they do not use a lot of fuel...even the TA seems ok. It has an after market 3 point that went with it...but not mounted.
The 50 I would like to keep to pull kids on our hayrides at church. I really did not have a lot of use for it.
I only paid $550 for the IH, and $475 for the 50. Heck, the tires and rims are worth more than that. So...to paint or not to paint, that is the question..... and no, I am not going to sell them...yet.

Were you the only one at the auction?

No Rusty...there were a lot of people there...but they were after the shiny utility stuff. Saw a well used Ford 3000 go for 5500, a Massey 135 went for almost 6000. They even had an old Long 460 with a loader go for 4400. The older tricycle tractors were not bid on at all. A JD G went for junk price. It was not pretty, but only 2 guys bid on it and it went for 900, a really nice IH 400 gas went for 500. It was really nice. I had spent my allotment or I would have brought it back too.
My friend got a 560D for 1300 and an Oliver 550 gas for 750. It is rough but it runs good. A new/better back tire and it will be a good mowing tractor.
One guy came up to me and ask me what an Oliver was. That shows you who was there. Young guys who have a couple of acres that thought they needed a large tractor. There was an IH 460D I wanted really bad...but the fool thing went for 7500. Way out of my league. They had to show the guy how to drive it. I warned him about the TA on a down hill slope...but I know he paid me little attention.
He just wanted to get it on a truck and go home. Just one of those odd auctions...guess they do happen.
