Do any of you guys know any thing about a Yazoo mower? This one has a B/S engine and the mower mounts in the front and it steers in the back with 1 wheel. A friend picked it up today at and auction and I get the fun of getting it running and figureing out how to mount the mower on it. Thanks

I have one, the transmission is a two speed, changed by the lever that goes left to right on the floorboards. The forward-reverse lever is on the left. It doesn"t feather too well, mostly in or out. The transmission is a Twin Disc setup. I think there are about 20 clutch disc plates in it, at about $20 each, so when rebuild time comes it is kinda pricey. There is some internal adjustment to the clutch, by depressing a locking tab and turning a nut. Mine needs adjusting as it pops out of gear ocasionally, but I never seem to have time. This transmission setup was used from the 1950"s until I think 1982. Then it went hydrostatic, which would be much better. First gear is too fast for close trimming, and too slow for open area mowing. Second gear is too fast except for transport as it doesn"t mow very clean. Hang on to your hat when you start riding. The hard turns are like a tilt-a-wheel. Lean forward when turning and it isn"t too bad. They are not very good at hillsides and ditches. The tractor is too light on the drive wheels. To get out of the ditch, the deck needs to be raised and stand up and lean forward to get more weight on the drive wheels. All in all it is well built by 1958 standards.

I probably sell it before I ever use it much. The only thing I would ever use it for would be to pull my hat baler and it a little small HP wise to do that. Its to big to use to mow hay so its just one of those to play with for awhile and then sell.

I use a NH 850 baler, takes min. of 55HP to pull it and the book says an 800 is 53HP. I use an Oilver Super 88 to pull it now and the Oliver pulls it just fine. Plus on the Case I have to answer to my partner since we went in togeather to get it.

Yazoo mower in reply to old, 10-16-2005 21:41:30
Check out this site Yazoolawnequipment at yahoo groups, good mower, If it uses drive belts instead of the newer PTO style, you will need to mount the deck in front and adjust the belts by the distance that the deck is away from the "tractor", there should be adjustable links that you unbolt and screw in or out to make the belts just right, and you need to remember "BIB", bottom, inside, back that's how the belts fit into the double pulleys to the deck(yazoo mechanics will know this allready, as you can tear your hair out with belt routing) have fun!
