i just restored a 2600 ford 3cyl.des. and i thought i put the correct amount of hydr. fluid in the transmission, but on the dip stick it looks to be over.its past the line and the word full.i noticed a leak where the cluch shaft goes into the side of the tractor, would this be a result of too much fluid and if so will the seal have to be replaced?

Hmmm, does that dip stick also say with all cylinders extended? If so that is your hydraulic compartment which is seperate from the trans., that is just in front of it. On the right side of the trans, straight across from the shaft you are talking about is a plug that you remove to check the trans and if it is overfull that may be your problem with the leak.

I had a 3000 with a shaft leak as you mentioned. I was able to drain the compartment, disassemble (attachments to) and remove the shaft (externally) and reinstall a new seal (on both sides) in just a couple of hours. The seal replacement is not that hard and you don't have to go inside.

Mark.
