I had a crazy, but just might work thought. I have a 1951 A JD. I thought about a increase of power. How about a Deisel conversion? I thought about taking a pump off of a 72-/30 series deere deisel and putting it on to make it a deisel. A friend told me to maybe try putting it where the mag is to pump off the governer. We would also just try to run lines straight to the old spark plug holes. Do you think it was a fair idea?

The right amount of money will get you anything, including a good divorce lawyer.

There is no central injection pump as on other brands. JD 2-cylinders used "unit" injectors; one for each cylinder, running off the camshaft. There were a lot of differences in the head, cam, block, etc.

I have no doubt it could be done, but you would need extensive machining capability and probably a foundry.

Like the others said, converting to a diesel is very involved, Have you thought of putting a turbo on it? I have seen a picture of this!

Several years ago I remember seeing a JD "B" that had been converted to Diesel....so it can be done. I think I saw it in a "2-Cylinder" Magazine.

About the neatest thing I have seen, is the conversions made using the GM V-8 Diesel in an "A"...!!!

For a diesel to operate, it has to have at least 450 lbs of compression....a whale of a load on the crank and bearings..plus the added burden of the shock-loads of the diesel fuel detonating, when it lights up...!!

Ron..

Thanks guys, If you have any information or pictures of this process, Please help me out. I just thought it would be a good idea not to mention somthin' unique!!! I have never seen it done before, but I think that I could. I am 16 and working in the FFA Shop program, so I have alot of access to equipment, so that isn't the problem. It's just the brains of the idea. Thanks for all of your help guys, you just gave me a little more shove to doing this!! Thanks

It'll take a lot more than slapping on an injection pump, you're talking compression ratios and much higher pressures and forces in the engine, valve timing, cams, crank and rod strengths, etc, also a lot of engineering, etc. It would be easier and cheaper to start with a 70 or 720 Diesel.
