I had a 464 gas ('74) that I bought in '78 with 900 mowing hours. Kept if for several years using it in utility capacity on a small farm and sold it to a neighbor who still has it.

I didn't like it. I prefer the Fords in that HP range.

Objections were shuttle shift hard to work, hard to start in the winter, barely pulled a 2 bottom plow in my heavy clay and hard for me to mount/dismount due to limited seating area and controls all over the place ....oh and it liked gas.

Thanks for the information.
Any chance you could tell me how to get in touch with your neighbor to talk more about it?.. now that he has had it 25 years, he should know everthing about it.

I can't speak for the gas version, but as a whole I'm very partial to the 454, 464, 484, 385, 485, etc line of tractors. They are heavily built, allowing you to take advantage of the horsepower. The 8x4 transmission is great, and it has wet brakes, a stong hydraulic system, good power steering, and parts are still readily available. Of course, its getting kind of old and condition is important.

Thanks,
Seems this is a better tractor than the ford 3000.
I think I will get it.
Do you know where they were made?
