I have an 8n with a 6 cyl Funk Conversion. It was converted to 12 v before I got it. Now it has a negative ground. Is that normal? I thought about returning it to positive ground, but I am not sure if that is wise or even possible. I'm just a rookie. Any suggestions?

Batman..... ...12v alternators typically used in 12v conversions DEMAND NEGATIVE ground. Its a technical thing with solid state voltage regulator and diode rectifiers. Iff'n it ain't broke, don't fixxitt.

But to answer your other part of the question, yes both the OEM 4-cylinder engine and the flathead 6-cylinder engine used in the Funk conversion were 6-volt positive ground..... ...Dell, a 12v advocate for the right reasons

Didn"t see where he said it had a alternator or not, if a generator, very easy to go either way.

The 12v conversion uses a generator instead of an alternator.

Van..... ..its true mechanical voltage regulators and old fashioned "stealth" 12v gennys don't care, positive or negative ground, as long as you correctly "polarize" to match the battery ground.

Howsomevers; unless the 12v converter was an "originallity-nut" where looks is everything, its a 99% probablility that the 12v conversion used the cheap and commonly available Delco 10-SI alternator that DEMANDS negative ground for solid state technical reasons. Remember Haakims Razor..... ...Dell

Negative ground is to your advantage, as probably most of the other things in your stable are too - (Especially when booster cableing, etc.) Like Sammy says, leave it alone.

It was originally positive ground. Since it has been converted to 12v I am assuming with an alternator (as opposed to a 12v generator) you must run negative ground.
