I own a couple of tractors, but always need one to haul or use a pull type implement. I own a boneyard and have gathered quite a few IHC loadstars that just sit. what are the drawbacks to shortening one, adding an auxillary trans and a really LOW ratio rearend? I could put hydraulics on to dump my pan and some LP tires with aggressive tread. We have free drain gas. Some time and scrounging could result in a AC cab tractor. Where is the idea flawed?

It's been done before. I remember seeing a picture several years ago where a guy mated the rear half of a tractor to the front half of a truck. He even used the rear 38 inch tires and wheels from the tractor. The only drawback I can see is that maybe the trucktor wouldn't be quite as manuverable?

Quite common site here are Co-op owned Loadstar or Ford Louisville trucks converted to Fert&Lime trucks.Bout 48x24x20 Ag floaters on the rear and real wide steet tires on front.Dunno bout the gearing, but they trundle down the road pretty good, but gear right down for spreading in the field.Guy I know says they "Go" real good, but with the big tires and a load on,the brakes "really need" upgrading at road speed(45)

A local junk yard up the road put tractor tires on their yard trucks for years.
