I am going to post this on all boards I visit. Neighbor is going to by my ear corn for cow feed and I need a copy of the conversion chart that the elevators used to use when they were buying ear corn to figure how much a bushel of wet ear corn would convert to as dry shelled corn to figure out what the price should be. I will be using my old Wood Bros 1 row 1942-46 picker

I have a Funks Hybrid Seed Corn pocket notebook from 1973 that has a chart in it that may be what you are looking for. I can scan it and send image to your e-mail. Need your address if interested.

The elevators (2) in my area that used to buy ear corn when they quit buying it got rid of there charts, a third elevator when they bought ear corn shelled it to a scale hopper and weighed it after shelling and the 4'th elevator where I go started after ear corn was a thing of the past so never had them. The figures I need to come up with are for how many bushels of shelled corn the ear corn would make and this is the figure I need not only to find price but to report yield to gov for federal crop insurance and they require EXACT figures based on EXACT moisture content. When he bought some a few year ago we just figured it out at 70# ear corn to get bushels without woring about moisture but had problems with the crop insurance and I need to get as big a yield in my record as possible as I think my corn will be the best I have had in over 15 years, just between him and me no problem but figure in Uncke Sam and that is when the problem hits

@ $1.50 cash price you are looking at $42.85 a ton for ear corn. At that price I don't think your man ought to kick too bad on a little moisture. Dose he want you to give it to him?

SteveorMary is right about the pounds per bushel.

70# per bu ear will produce one bushel of shelled corn.

As to moisture elevators usually figure a 1.3 multiplier when drying corn. That is for every percent of moisture removed you subtract 1.3% from the weight of the grain hauled in.

Hope this isn't to muddy. Have fun with the Wood's Bro.s. I tried to buy one last fall and wasn't successful. Oh well.

Shelled Corn:56#/bu. Ear corn 70#/bu.

I am assuming that by dry the moisture content is 15%. I dont have any way of converting wet ear corn to dry shelled corn. There isnt a feed mill or grain elevator in the area you could check with?
