I have a '54 SC and a '53 DC CASE. When I bought them I planned on simply cleaning them up and repainting them. Well, one idea led to another and now, years later I have two tractors quite different than the ones I dragged home. This is especially true of the DC. I have added an AWF, converted to foot clutch, added a dual spool hydraulic pump, overhauled the engine, mounted new 14x38" rear rims, 4 new tires, etc. etc. I love the tractor but WOW has it gotten expensive! If I had known, I should have searched and found one set up like mine is now to begin with. I bet I would have half the $ into it. Anyone have similar experiences...? I had planned on finding/restoring a VAC but that will have to wait. There are new carpets and appliances to buy...! Glenn F.

Well, it's cheaper than golf, cheaper than gambling, cheaper than going to bars, cheaper than lots of other things. It also keeps you off the streets and out of trouble.

A restoration should be a "labor of love". If done properly, you'll NEVER make money on it.

My take is, if you're gonna restore it, and then whine about it, DON'T BOTHER!

Well guy's it's kinda like this. No matter what it is hunting, fishing, tractor pulling, stock car racing, what ever. It is just a hobby that one loves to do. Most of us will never break even let alone get rich doing it. Just enjoy what ever it is. And as far as the women go, they have there hobbies also, don't let them fool you.

As you say, much cheaper than a therapist. Wifey was givin me a hard time and wasn't livin here, so I dragged home a junk tractor. Spent many an hour, and lots of money restoring it. Sure was fun and kept my head clear too..... ...
Now it's for sale for half what I have into it,oh well..... ..... ...

I'll say the toy addictions can get mighty costly . My x gave me an altimatum . I didn't know the single life could be so much fun . The only thing I miss is her cooking & paycheck . It's alot quieter around here too . Good Luck , Ken

Ray is correct and most common models you see advertised restored means new paint, and sometimes that isn't even good....
If you check them you'll see that a bolt hasn't been cracked.

Here is my 1948 Ford 8N that I bought and just planned to replace the rear axle oil seals. With well over $5k in parts and materials, I can't use it to mow - and can't sell it and break even (not that I would anyway!)

It is an addiction you just have to pay for.

Good luck,
Dan

It doesn't pay to restore a common tractor, just the rare ones.
