My lawn is really a 2 acre yard.A 1962 Ford 2000 is used to bush hog the other open areas, and do what other tractor work that gets done. This is the last season for my riding mower.I'm thinking of replacing it with a small old tractor to mow the yard. Some of this yard is fairly steep.A Cub or A with a belly mower is what I have in mind, something on that order.I want one that runs quiet, and is real, and fun to work on.My brother has a new $7000 ZTR that sounds like a helicopter, not what I need. Please offer your suggestions for tractor and mowing attachment. All comments are welcome. Thanks

Boley --

I know you are going to hear --Farmall Cub,nice little tractor, but only 10 or 12 HP and no waterpump you sure don't want that on a steep rolling yard....A Farmall super A would do it the super has hydrolic lift and you will want a 5 ft. mower deck..... I have mowed a large yard all my mowing days.....I am not pushing Power King, but that is what I have been using for the past 8 years....mine is a 2016---twin cyl 20HP Koler engine with hydro trans ,you can change tractor speed down to a craw, while engine speed and mower speed remain constant. You get power steering and lift also...5' deck so far I have had to replace one set of belts..... You said you wanted a tractor, take a look at how this 1620 is built.....A high quality "O" turn 5' deck is best of all, but a mower only....By the way Agr. tires works better than turf tires on steep lawns.....

Boley, If you go with one of those tractors with a belly mower get something that's easy to manuever and drive if you got lots of trees and things to go around. If not it won't be that bad. Went and bit the bullet today and got a new Cub Cadet with the 27 HP to mow the big yards. It should drive around trees easier anyway. Use to have a MF 135 with a 60" belly mower but with trans drive PTO and no power steering was hard to get around trees with. The ag tires tore the yard up too. So if you are only going to use it to mow with consider cost of turf tires or the diamond tread too when pricing. The belly mower made it prone to get stuck in ditches or on any high spots too. I saw a neat AC G with a Woods belly mower on it but they said it was a dusty thing to drive like that down so low. At least the cub or A would get you up some higher.

I mow with a G with Woods deck, and as long as you're on grass, it isn't dusty at all ! Very easy to turn, too.
