Did something today that I have not done in several years. Had a field that was grown up in cockelburs that were literally as tall as the cab of the tractor.Hooked up the disc and literally all I done was mash them to the ground. So then I dragged the JD moldboard plow out of the weeds and after 2 new hydralic hoses and a new set of plowshares,I literally made the cockelburs disappear. Been a while since the old plow was in the ground, but after about 20 minutes the moldoards were shiny as new. Sorta brought back memories when we used to plow everything .

What are you going to do next year with all those burrs you planted this year? Burning might have been more effective.

Seems like burning just makes them mad, and determined to get even. You should have a nice stand next spring, and after they all germinate, a little dose of Roundup would do the trick.

We still plow all of our ground that we raise tobacco on. Tobacco ground is about all that is plowed in our area though. No till for the row crops. Bury those cockelburs! You won't see them again until next year. :)
