I'm getting ready to paint the eaves of my house. There is quite a bit of mildew. I sprayed all of it with my garden sprayer using 50-50 water and bleach. How long should I wait before washing it down with the hose? Do I need to wash it off?

Wait until your wet hand rubbed on the surface does not feel slick - probably at least overnight. You do not want chlorine under the paint. For a solution that strong, you should rinse it and then wait a couple of days for the chlorine to go away. I am from Nashville, TN so it is similar climate to yours. For vinyl siding I use about a cup chlorine per gallon and a tablespoon of dishwashing liquid and also brush the worst areas. You should not need half and half except in badly mildewed parts.

Thanks, higgins. I went on and rinsed the solution off within an hour and scrubed the entire surface with a brush using warm water and dish-washing detergent. The mildew left after the second scrubin'. I will wait a few days before I paint. Again, thanks.
