Does any one know the value of a Smith and Wesson model 46, it shoots 22 cal. longs. I acquired it through an estate I am the trustee of. I have no use for the gun, and before I take it to a gun shop to sell I would like to know the possible value. I will not sell it through this sight so please don't ask. I guess I could use it to shoot snakes when I am on my tractor, but would probably shoot my self like my brother did. He lived to tell about it I may not be so lucky. Stan

GunsAmerica.com has one in 98% condition for 475 + 25 shipping so figure one almost perfect is 500.00. If it has the US stamped on it you have a collector piece worth much more. One lists with the US stamp (military) for right at 3000.oo

About 4K of them made according to serial # lists in value guide... Value $200-450 depending on condition, barrel length, ect. Keep it. Poke it away in a deep closet and forget about it.

If you sell the gun to a dealer you are going to get the wholesale price of the gun. That will be about half the value of the gun. If you were to sell it yourself as legal in your state you would get a fair price. I would call a gun club and find out what their method of sale is. Go to Gunsamerica.com and find out what they are going for. My 2 cents

Manufactured 4,000 units from 1957 to 1966. 5, 5.5 & 7" barrels. 7" is most desirable. Single action with plastic grips, 10 shot clip and target barrel. $200 to $400, maybe higher depending if new and original box. You'll be lucky to get $200 from an arms dealer assuming average condition. Good luck.

Chief, I can't see why anyone would give up a pistol like that. I have hung on to every one I've ever owned from 13 years old to 66, with the exception of two that I gave to friends in the last few years. If you sell the pistol, you will only buy a tractor tire with the money. But if you must, I would say from $200-$450 the condition will dictate the price.

the Smith 46 was a target model used in the 22 cal event of a 2700, lots of them around, they are good guns, but have been replaced in pistol matches by the high standard, (victors and trophys). There is no way they are worth $2000 plus. why not just keep it as a shooter.

If it's like the one in the link below it's a sweet target pistol. If I were in your shoes I'd go to a pistol class and get qualified in it's use and try target shooting. Sound like fun.

FYI. . .

For some of you other gun buffs out there, this site is useful for some older arms and military arms.

Doing a google search I found one for sale for $2,995!!

Not sure the specifics, but you might check into it a little more before selling it to the local gun dealer for $100 or something.

I posted the link below.

I wouldnt sell any gun. As it is going some day you wont be allowed to have it, or if they know you have it you'll get taxed on it. Just my opnion and fear.
