My dad died suddenly and left a working farm to dissolve. There are 4 JDs. I need to determine age so as to get fair price for them. Serial numbers are G9395, G57213, H30427, and B78113.

There is a Farmall M serial #FBK144016X7. There are also a 9N and 8N, but I can't find the ID plates.
There is a NH Hayliner S-69 baler, serial #12398, and a 4 row JD planter.

I would appreciate any age or value information anyone can provide.

Mandy,

You can find age by serial number here.

G9395 = 1940
G57213 = 1952
H30427 = 1941
B78113 = 1939

Assuming equivalent condition, I would assume the 1940 G is the most valuable of the Deeres. If either of the Gs are wide front or high-crop configuration then they are very very valuable.

Look at the classifieds section on the left and maybe ebay to see what current market value is.

Keep in mind at auction, you pay the auctioneer, probably some advertising as well, and then the taxes after that. Can take a really good auction price down in a hurry. If you get one like one in Winterset, IA, you'll pay for way more than you eer imagined he would charge for, plus he'll "give away" most of the small items to get to the big ones. KNOW YOUR AUCTIONEER!!

My sympathies.

Sell at auction. The tractors are collectable, and ondition is _far_ more important than age. Far, far, far more important.

The M will be $900 - $2000.

The 8N will be 1500-3500 if you find a sucker for the high-end.
The 9N will be 900-3500 if you can really find a sucker. Both of the N's are _worth_ $900-1500, but a lot of folks moving to a 10 acre lot bid them up if you are in such a location.....

Good baler will be $200-500, or $50 if it's rusted outdoor shot; can be $750 if showroom kept.

Planter, a 494 or something? From $100 - 500. They actually went up a little in past years, used to be close to the $100 most of the time, see them fetch more now again.

Tractors sell any time, baled & planter sell in very early spring - not now.

Auction will do you the best tho. Where you are makes a big difference, as well as condition. These are what you see for $$$ in my part of the midwest.

Mandy,
Sorry to hear about your father. I also lost my father when I was 26 and also on a working farm. Be careful about selling those tractors. There will be someone out there who will try to "skin" you. Best to sell by auction, then they will bring a fair price. Just my opinion from lots of years of experience. Good luck. David
