Timing Help?

I have an Allis B with FMJ Magneto and the points were pitted. After changing points, gapping at .020, setting the rotor at #1 with flywheel at "cent" mark through left side inspection hole...she won't start...not even sputter. I've even tried retiming so that flywheel is on "fire" mark...still no good. The #1 cylinder is the one closest to the front wheels, right?

It looks like the points are opening at the right point.

The info in the shop manual and the service manual contradict each other...so that doesn't help.

Any Help Appreciated!!

Front cylinder at tdc of intake stroke. Can try to explain the often nylon gear inside of the mag cover and lining up either the "B" or "C" mark, but far better is to look under the archives of the Allis forum here. You will find photos and an explanation of it. Give it a shot, it works. Been there, done that. Do a search of "AC B timing" or something very close, and you'll find it.

Could also post the question over at the Allis forum, but the best is to look at the photos and read. Can't go wrong. Good luck, isn't hard.

By the way, once get the timing marks lined up close, is a light enough tractor can rock it into exact position in third gear by grabing the tire lugs and bumping it forward or backwards by hand, even if have to take the other 3 plugs out so has no compression built up in any cylinder. Are hard to find anymore since typewriters are a thing of the past, but those old ink/type erasers that looked like pencils and could sharpen like a pencil? Are a mild enough abrasive that can clean the contacts for the plug wire posts inside the mag cover and inside the terminals for the plug wires, if you can find one.

Thanks Mark, I got her going...i was timing to the exhaust stroke, instead of compression stroke...kind of a bonehead move.
