I bought some straight 30 wt oil to change in my Farmall B. It is high detergent HD oil. Motor was recently rebuilt. Does the SL, SJ and other ratings matter? The stuff I bought is SL rating said for gasoline engines in todays cars and light trucks. Thanks

Thanks everybody. I had the block acid dipped to clean all sludge when rebuilt. I don't use it in the winter. I didn't change the oil yet but will now that I know it is OK. Thanks for the help.

As long as it is a quality brand 30 wt. oil.
You will be fine for the summer, you might want to use a quality brand 10w30 if you are going to use in winter.

As long as the insides were not significantly sludged when you opened it up for the rebuild, or if the block was cleaned at that time, detergent oil would be fine, and preferred, for this application.

Good luck,
Dan

No, it doesn't matter - the higher the letter, the more recent the oil. On gasoline oils, ALL later designations supersede ALL earlier ones.
