I have a 1999 F-250 super duty runs great when it runs it has this little problem and not always just rattles your chain when it does it but it intermitenly just cuts in and out like someone kinks the fuel line. Now i probably over maintain but its very well kept. I have changed the fuel filter and the air filter and it hasent helped now i have heard that these things like cam sensors for brunch. Now my question to you guys is have any had this same problem and if so what was the problem? If it helps it has 130,000 miles on it and like i said runs strong and it dont throw a code and the "SERVICE ENGIN SOON" light came on once and cleared of when i turned it off and took the key out. Im really stumed and these dealers around hear want $100 just to have a tech drive the damb thing in the shop. Any and all help is appreciated!!! Thanks!!!

Tyler,

The best site I have found by far to get help with Powerstroke diesels is at

Link

Go to the Powerstroke Only forum. I would bet it is the CPS. I believe they are relatively inexpensive and easy to replace.

Ask the question on that forum, or better yet search the archives.

Best advise is not to buy Ford Car.
Had a 2002 Taurus, trans went out at 53,000 miles.
DSM said "tough", your not a loyal ford customer.
I have three ford cars (1996 & 2-2002's) and a F-150 4X4. All purchased new. Trans cost me $3,400 at dealer in Ft Worth. What a rip-off.
No more Ford products for me or my company.

A semple test of the CPS is to crank the engine, if the tac doesnt move its the cps, if the tack moves it isn't.

Go to this site and ask you question:

You'll fine just about anything you need to know about the ford diesels.

Maybe there are some intelligent answers to the questions on the OLDER Ford Diesel forums, but to expect any intelligence from the 6.0 liter boards is not going to happen. All it is, is a place where the whiners are whinging about Ford making them pay for the damage they caused by hot rodding their pickups. Other than that, if you think a high school kid or wanna bee truck driver can answer your question, give it a try.

If you could read, you would note I referred to the OLDER Ford forums, which includes the 7.3L, as it is no longer current), as POSSIBLY containing some intelligent answers.

I can read! I read that the original poster of this question asked about a 7.3 lt Powerstroke, no mention of a 6.0, but yet you made a refernce to the whiners,wanna-bes', and high school kids on the 6.0 forum.WHY? No significance here! Just like my reply back to you.You will always be right, and I will always be wrong! Cynicism runs rampant on this bord, thats for sure.Bye, my friend! Enjoy life in your little hole!

i will have to agree with the others sounds like the cam position sensor. had the same problem with my 96 7.3. would be going along fine and all of the sudden it would just quit and then start up again. changed the sensor and no more problems.

i gotta go with allen on this one as i am a ford dealer man. i see people everyday that come in and have already spent hundreds of dollars trying to fix it themselves without success and the bill with us ends up bring half of what they spent themselves already. there are good aftermarket shops out there also but they are just as expensive as us do to the fact that they are good also. all that aside i"ll put money on the cam position sensor, been a big problem and we see quite a few every day.

Hi Tyler,

First, I'll tell you that I was a service mangager at a Ford dealership in 1999.

They may charge you that $100 to run it in the door, but you have to understand that they have the equipment to "snapshot" that truck as the problem actually occurs and see what is really going on.

You will easily throw that same $100 at the truck just "guessing" at what is wrong. It sounds like a crank sensor, it sounds like a cam sensor, it sounds like a loose connector pin, but it also sounds like a defective PCM.

An intermittent like that could be one of a 100 different things; might even be a fuel delivery issue.

For my money, I'd find a dealer that I could trust and take it in to the pros. They work on these things every day, day in and day out and they have seen every problem there is with these trucks.

Downside is that you might have to leave the truck with 'em for a few days until they can get it to act up.

Just my opinion,

Allan

Not saying they are bad but just those little things you see everyday kinda turn your head and im not saying i wouldnt own one but it would be the same if i worked for Ford! Dodge only charge's $36 to hook it up on the computer thats why im standing back also it only pulls its crape at night?? Beats me, thanks for all the help guys really do appreciate it! -Tyler
