How much is a JD 720 L.P. worth?

I'm thinking of purchasing a 1957 John Deere 720 L.P. with what looks to be a factory wide front. However the tractor's is sad shape. It has no good rubber, rims are about shot(one already is), the sheet metal is in very poor condition, and the engine is stuck tight. However the tranny seems like it might be ok. So how much is this tractor worth? All opinions are much appreciated.

Run a serial number check with the Two Cylinder Club. You never know. I bought a beater for parts and it turned out to be an engineeirng research tractor. Now I'm using my good tractor as parts to rebuild the rough one.

The tractor you describe in not worth much, just about scrap price. Here is why in my opinion--all of what you list is pricey to fix, engine rebuild could go $1500. +, what with new pistons, bore, valves and seats, probably guides, and rod bearings using your own labor. Fixing up shot sheet metal is time consuming more than anything else and it usually shows thru the finish paint. Tires, well, expect to replace them but rear rims are $200. each. Then there is the biggie--WHAT ELSE that lies inside that you have not seen, oh say some broken teeth on a trans gear, probably the shifter end is worn ( most with hours on them are), radiator leaks, missing or dead parts on the fuel system. You get the idea. Yeah, it should be saved for parts but you can check the photo ads here and I think there are 2 same model listed and don't look too bad. So $100 to $300 would be good price. Just my thoughts HTH, George

Rowcrop wide front or Standard wide front? Difference in $$$ there.

Well, not sure about one in such sad shape, but a running 720 LP, factory wide front (no breaks or welds) and a complete factory 3 point, to include top link, good straight tinwork, sold this spring at a farm auction for about $2500, which I thought was real reasonable. If it has a factory 3 point, the tractor would probably be worth about 1500 - 1900 for parts if it is complete. Just my humble opinion.
