Tractor sleuthing

I ran across an interesting Farmall yesterday. It has 300-400 style sheetmetal and a white grill. The hood is painted red and the sides have Farmall in metal leters but no numbers. The engine is a diesel and from what I could tell is a direct start. Reading my books last night a 350 had a Continental engine direct start diesel. I hope to look at the data plate when the wasps get evicted. Am I on the right track in identifying this tractor

Any comments appreciated.

Hey Bill,

Might wanna be careful with that 350D. Isn't that the one that you can't get parts for anymore?

Thanks for the information. I don't know anything about a Continental diesel, in fact I didn't know IH put one in their tractors.

righto, that engine is something I wouldn't touch with a ten foot pole if it's a diesel 350. It could also be a 300, 400 or a 450. I believe some of the 300-400's might have had the white grill and sides of the hood from the factory, but I know some people liked to paint their tractor like that when it was orignally all red too. Personally, I think they look much better with the white.

Thanks for your input. According to my books the 450 still had the IH diesel which started on gas and switched over. It seems the 350 might have been the first smaller diesel engine that was the Continental. Anyway I am not real interested in the tractor if it has that engine, unless I had a good gas engine to swap over.
