I have seen several references to YUPPIE tractors. What are they?

Branson, Century, Kioti (insert name of Korean or Chinese tractor here....). BIL has a Kioti Ck30 HST - has had it for 3 months now - POS (in my crumbled opinion), but he seems to like it, even though the backhoe arm broke because it is cheaply made you-know-what, and other problems. Basicly a yuppie tractor is any that is grossly overpriced, cheaply made tractor that people who know nothing about tractors buy. Overgrown lawnmowers. Farmall A,B,C, Ford 8N,9N,2N and others DO NOT qualify as yuppies - these are REAL tractors and have proven thier worth over 50+ years.

New, fancy, high priced; cost more than my home is worth; and will do half the work that my 44 2N bought new by my Dad will still do

A yuppie tractor is something like a 18000.00 3020 or a 4000.000 H or a 4000.00 400 case those yuppie tractors seem to hold there value better than a farmers.

Well, in *that* case, my neigbor has a yuppie trac. It's a Ford 8N Painted with rust, and a half shredded tire, and he's selling it for 4000! Many new tracs are also yuppies, it seems.

Sure have me on that one. in reply to KenSWLA, 09-03-2005 19:25:13
After I've put the food in their mouths, the roof over their heads, and the money in their back pockets, then it might matter and probably won't, but until then it's none of my friggin business.

Maybe they didn't inherit Mommy and Daddy's farm or still live with Mommy and Daddy and call themselves farmers, hoping and waiting to inherit Mommy and Daddy's farm.

Yuppie tractor? I have no clue.

Mark

A Yuppie that I know had his accountant buy him a farm and stock it with the proper equipment. Accountant did all this on the "best tax shelter method". When hayin season rolled around the yuppie found out that a piece of equipment needed 60 HP to use it but he only had a 30 HP tractor. Not to be out done the Yuppie gives his hay crop to an older farmer nearby and when winter comes he buys back enough hay to feed his nine 4 year old heifers. So a Yuppie tractor is one that won't quite get the job done but looks good.

"Yuppie" means "Young, Urban, Professional", or "Young, Upwardly Mobile, Professional", generally someone who works with his head instead of his back, and gets paid enough so he doesn't worry about farming as a losing proposition.

This is some of my data from many years of research, for whats it's worth. 98.2% of YUPPIE tractors do not run good and the other 1.8% do not run at all. From my survey 62% of YUPPIES had red tractors ,(they could not determine trim between white, gray, black or white). 23% said their tractors were blue on a hot sunny day with high himidity. 56% said they had a grey tractor but could not pronounce the name. What this breaks down to is YUPPIE'S don't really know what they are buying.

Real answer in reply to KenSWLA, 09-03-2005 19:25:13
Any small old or new tractor, found on sub 40 acre "ranchettes" and owned by "yuppies" who work in town, have a house on said "ranchette" and so need a small tractor to brush cut, blade snow and sometimes dirt, and possibly perform low hp tractor duties involveing horse ownership, like loader work and manure hauling/spreading. 8N Fords, 750 John Deeres, 230 Internationals and other small tractors can be called such. It is being owned by a very rural as opposed to suburban "Yuppie" which really makes a tractor into a "Yuppie Tractor"!

Being an antique tractor site, a YUPPIE tractor is any tractor newer than the one you own.

Many times the person is curious about the YUPPIE tractor but pride prevents them from driving one or being seen on one lest the neighbours drive by.

Unbeknownst to the average ANTIQUE tractor owner, many YUPPIE tractors can really do a lot of work. Unfortunately YUPPIES don't really put them to work or put silly turf tires on.
