Took my son Adam dove hunting for the first time today.

He shot 5 times and killed 3 doves !

Not bad for a nine year old !

I was really proud of him as he was very concious about safety but I was right next to hime the whole time of course.

We had some great father and son time together.

Sorry but I just had to brag a bit !

I'm not a dove hunter, and probably wouldn't hunt 'em if they were legal to hunt. After MANY years of prohibitions, Michigan finally passed a law allowing a "limited, experimental hunt" in a few selected counties to evaluate the results of hunting on the population. Darned if the ANTIS didn't find a way around it by putting the law up to referendum. Effectively cancelling further seasons, and putting a game management question up to the people. (And we have a law on the books that requires game decisions to be made by the DNR!)

Hang on to your privileges boys, they're under attack, and you could loose your huntin'. Then what could you do with the kids & grandkids?

Ever heard Alan Jackson's "Drive" CD, the title song "Drive"? I'm not the biggest Jackson fan you'll ever find, but it's a good CD, just about every song. If you get a chance, play that song, listen to the words with the eyes closed, and watch you and your son in your fondest imagination. May get a kick out of it. Give it a shot.

When I was kid, Grandpa loved his Cubs, and would sometimes sit back on the sofa and listen to them on the AM radio in SouthBend with his eyes closed. Once while we were over there on a Saturday, I asked him if he was sleeping and he said "No, just watchin the ballgame". I had no idea what he meant until I got older, and now some of the best Hawks hockey games I've ever seen were with my eyes closed listening to them on the AM radio.

My two sons went on their first hunt with their step father doggone it. My grandson went on his first Grouse hunt with me and knocked down his first ruffed grouse. Took the clean bird home for his mom to cook him for dinner and left it on the counter while he took a shower. The two cats enjoyed the grouse and now he hates cats. LOL Like you it was a joy to see that safety was a first priority with him, the birds were secondary.

I haven't been hunting with my oldest son yet, but we did take a nap together today. Of course he is only 23 months old, loves the outdoors, tractors, and my old red ford truck. After taking a nap I then gave my wife a break and gave our youngest son a bottle. He's 1 month old. I envy what you and your son did together and dream about doing that someday with my sons. I can't hardly wait.

Can"t beat good Father & Son time.
Watched my oldest son march in his first Labor Day parade with the High School band today. Then we came home and he helped me finish installing a new double swing gate in the fence to the yard. Made me feel real proud of him and thankful for the time that I have with him. Especially with all the turmoil in todays world.
