I have enjoyed this sight for about 3 years now. I have learned a great deal about machinery and farming. I have read people's opinions about politics and at times expressed mine. There are good people on this sight, of whoms posts and pics I enjoy, but the current bickering about gas, Bush, whatever, doesnt really matter now. The hurricane has destroyed too many people lives. As I am typing this more people/children are dying than we can even guess. Lets use this forum for its original purpose and right now to do what we can to help the victims. Is it possible to get some links on here for donations to secure donations to the Red Cross. Can we arrange donation pick ups in our area's. My wife and I are not rich by no means but we are donating a ggod chunk of cash, and are even seeing if we can accomadate maybe a few Refugees (who'd of thought in the US) on our farm. Any one have any ideas what we can do right now with this tool, the forum. Lets leave the bit@#ing and complaining off the forum for at least a few weeks and get some posts out there of what we can do to help.

That's a good one and the Salvation Army would be a good one also, just be careful, a lot of scammers out there trying to steal money now, pretty sad they do this and sleep at night

Dave, In addition to being retired, (thats a laugh), and farming, I work part time at our local Sears store. Just today they came out with a program by where anyone, employees, customers, friends or family can donate to the American Red Cross through Sears, and Sears will match dollar for dollar up to $500,000.00. This means if they recieve $500K in pledges, they(Sears) will also kick in $500K which would amount to $1,000,000.00 for disaster relief for the Katrina victims through donations to the Red Cross. This program is nationwide so anyone can donate through Sears. I decided that instead of hauling my tractors to a show this weekend, that I would stay home and donate the money I would have otherwise spent on fuel and other expenses and donate to the victims of Katrina, who can use all the help available. There will be other tractor shows. I"m not in any way trying to undermine any efforts of anyone else to raise money for disaster relief, but only to relate an additional venue for donating. Thanks Dave for your action, as we need action in this time of need more than we need chin music and blame tossing. I know I have a big mouth, but for now I"m willing to put some of my money where my mouth is. How about all you other guys?

I think one imediate need is long term housing for the displaced poor. If anyone knows of any old vacant motels, etc that could be got ready on short notice to start receiving refugees they need to get the ball rolling in that direction. once a temp housing is set up it shouldn't be to hard to secure transportaion for those needing help. remember that a lot of these people have nowhere to go or the means to travel if they did. and all there friends are in the same fix.
