I don"t think it is all that rare. The majority of them shipped to the Southern states didn"t have cabs,in fact Deere made alot of 8430-8630 tractors without cabs for the southern market. Even the first year out, the dealers around us had a few with cabs, but most were 4 post or open station tractors. My dad bought 3 of them in late 1973 and early 1974,2 open station and 1 with a 4 post. I don"t think any of them cost more than $15,000. The cab added about $3000 if I remember right.I still have the 4 post, and keep it around for a chore tractor.

Stum, I'm not saying I don't believe you, but I'd really like to see a picture of an open-station 8430 or 8630. That would be a first for me.

One comes up every once in a while in a southern issue of Fastline, they are 4 post tractors. I saw them being built when I went on a tour of the Deere factory. The run of them I saw being built were for the big Corporate cotton and cane farms and some for export.According to the tour guide, they were being built that way because of cost considerations and if something went wrong with the a/c,the hired help would take off the doors and remove or kick out the windows. You can also find 50 series 4 post tractors still around down there.
