Okay guys. I am a college graduate. I understand the way things look on paper and all. But who in the world could imagine that our government could be so stupid. With all of this outsourcing of american jobs to korea, mexico, india, etc. People are losing jobs! Which means they will not be able to buy things as they once would. Then the good ole government officials we have in office now will wander why our country is headed into another depression in a few yrs. Sorry so long winded guys.

It is all about money & greed, ... Our shop, builds tooling for making plastic parts.. 10 years ago, I could not keep up, I worked 12 hour days, 6 or 7 a week... I started seeing a decline around 5 years ago, now I am not even billing enough hours to cover the rent, power, & phone. Customers that I went the extra mile for, now are getting tools built in China. One even brought in a Junk Chinese mold & asked me to work on it for free.. I bet he never returns, LOL... All of this is so the CEO's & Beancounters can get a bigger bonus at the end of the year, & show the stockholders a dividend. As all expenses rise, big customers are demanding price redutions from small suppliers. I have to be so negative, but I think we are starting to go into a recession as I type this...

I agree with so much that has been said by all. I think the real problem is to many people do not study the bible enough and understand what they are reading. There are so many people who want to seperate church and state so for what purpose?? The very basis of our oringal law was based on gods law. As far as helping foreign countries, that is ok as long as our own children are fed first!!! Many of our politians have no idea what poverty is really like right here at home. They only read about it in reports. They come from families that are well off. I do not hate them or dislike them, I just think they need a reality check! And YES, we are headed in for a depression in about the next 5 years. Sorry to be negative & sorry so long winded. Think about what will make money in a hard times and study. Thanks.

In the Detroit area, there are blocks and blocks of Tool & Die shops closed or operating on a shoestring. A friend of mine had a dozen people working for him 5 years ago. Nice machines, CNC, an expensive Unigraphics cad system ( required to service some big customers) He now works by himself out of a small shop in the backyard. Now most machines are bought overseas, and the tooling to run them too. The unemployment rate is artificially low ( If you run out of benifits, you are not unemployed?) But I think the underemployment issue is starting to surface too. I know of one guy who was a good tool designer ( Cad stuff ) Now he drives a truck for a landscaping company. He just got a raise to $10 / hr. Thats because he: 1) speaks english and 2) Has a legal driver's license. Another guy used to be an engineer - now he works at Lowes garden center. I would not recomend any young person to be an engineer or any job in manufacturing. As far as the government stats, I flat out don't believe them. Unemployment and inflation stats are being rigged. If you want to read some about that, go to MSN Money, and read the contraian chronicles, by Bill Flectinstien. He explains how the feds "manufacture" low inflation. Easy.

We are being told that our Social Security is going broke. In the meantime there is an agreement with the Mexican government to give Mexicans who are working in this country Social Security benefits. The information, I have, states this would include legal and illegal, refugees, asylum seekers, guest workers and those with amnesty. There is an estimated 20 million Mexicans in this country. As it now stands, this treaty does not have to be ratified by congress. It only needs to be signed by President Bush and he has promised the Mexican Government he will sign it. Representative Barbara Cubin (R-WY) has introduced H.R. 2339 which would keep this treaty from being enacted without congressional approval.
We definitely need to support Rep. Cubin in getting this baloney stopped.

Actually, NAFTA CAFTA are the good ones. in reply to flyrod, 08-31-2005 15:38:21
It's the WTO stuff that is more menancing.

We *should* be doing everything we can to encourage economic development worldwide.

But it starts in the U.S.

And then extends to our neighbors.

And only after Canada, Mexico, and the other Americas are on a solid foot should we consider easier trade with distant lands, most especially distant lands that still loom as potential future adversaries.

I'm not one to protect every last American clothespin factory, and certainly for all the doom-and-gloom I hear I keep seeing new office buildings and new shopping centers and new homes being built.

But I do believe there are things fundemental strategically -- like agriculture, like diverse manufacturing -- that have to be encouraged to stay and thrive even if you can buy it cheaper overseas.

But if we must buy it overseas, I so prefer Americas over Aisa; and certain Aisan nations like Japan & India over say China.

And I think we should withdraw from the WTO and let our politicians make decisions in the best interests of our nation.

Matt

the nation wouldn't be in this shape except for the people aren't represented anymore, the constitution says 1 rep for 30k we now have 1 rep for 630k that's not a republic. it's goverment by a select few and goverment by commitee which any big business and country can afford.
