I have been brush hogging my property, trying to
get done before snow fall. I'm less than half done and my tractor started acting like it was running out of fuel, I went and changed both fuel filters and screen on fuel pump. Bled the system and got it running again. Today after three hours it did the same thing again, During the course of the day it has run out of fuel four more times and I've had to bleed the system each time to get it running again. I'll wait til morning and bleed again, whats happening? This has never happened before. There is plenty fuel, clean filters. I noticed that when I unscrewed the fuel shutoff valve, there was no fuel coming out of the (full) fuel tank, does the fuel pump siphon it out? It'll run about a half hour at 2000RPM before it runs out of fuel. I even loosened the tank cap thinking the cap vent is plugged, still it ran out of fuel. Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks Larry

Take the fuel line loose at the fuel pump, open valve, and see if you have a good, sustained flow of fuel. If you do, there should be no blockage in the tank. Then I would consider a new fuel pump. I replaced one on a friend's 360 about a year ago because it seemed to be running out of fuel often. He had changed filters and cleaned pump screen. These helped but did not cure the problem. The cost should be around $30. I have used Longs for almost 30 years and have replaced pumps 2 or 3 times. Good luck with your tractor.

Aloha, Is the fuel valve screwed into the bottom of the tank (gravity flow)or in line with the fuel line?? If it is screwed into the bottom of the tank there could be a clogged screen filter on the shut off valve. If the fuel line is on the top of the tank, then there could be a screen filter on the bottom of the fuel pickup tube that needs cleaning. If the valve is in line with the fuel line, then I would check if it is coming out from the source. Is the valve working ok?
Hope this helps.

I unscrewed the fuel shut-off valve from the bottom of the tank, it looks like there is something inside, I can't tell what it is, if this is a gravity flow then there must be a screen that you can remove and clean. If so does this screen screw out? The tank is full of fuel and it barely drips out with shut-off valve removed. I'm looking at this as being the problem, all my reference books show the tank but no screen on or in the tank. I will keep working on the fuel tank to see if there is a screen that can be removed. Thank you all for your help. Larry

Aloha Larry, Looks like you most likely found the problem. I don't know how that tank is constructed so you are on your own on that. I would get a mirror and flashlight to see if the screen is removable. Sometimes you may be able to pull it out to clean or you may have to drain the tank to be able to work on it easier or to remove the tank for a thorough cleaning. Personally, I would remove the tank and give it a good cleaning because the fuel may be contaminated with bacteria and that is what's clogging the screen. Some people may punch out the screen and use a inline fuel filter after the shutoff valve if they can't get a replacement screen.

Thanks for all your help, after all the problems of trying to see up in the tank, I went and got my portable air tank, bought an air nozzle, went out in the field to the tractor and blast a couple of shots of air backwards into the tank and out came the fuel. I will run the tank close to empty and drain and flush out the tank. Larry
