I was look at some of my tractors today, and I noticed that I need to dust them. My question is, what would be the best way to to dust and clean my toys, without harming the paint and the decals.(I was thinking of using water and cue-tips) Would this work?

Please help, Farmall Teen

I don"t really know. All I know is my wife goes up into the toy room a coupla times a year to dust the toys. I know this because she tells me that she headed up to do it and could use a little help. I pretend I didn"t hear her and stay out side for two days and when I go up to the toy room after three or four days every thing seems to be in the right places and I don"t notice any dust on them.
Works for me!
She won"t do the Keystone toys and I am going to have to get around to clean them one of these days. They are dirty enough I will probly have to soak them in a wash tub of warm dish soap water and rinse them with a water hose. Then set them in front to a fan to dry like I did the last time.
Most pictures are in the album. I don"t know what Fotki is doing so thaat some pictures do not come up.

I use a "feather duster". Its a long stick with feathery wings that picks up dust but doesn't scratch anything.

Use a very soft shaving brush, or even better those very soft brushes the ladies use to apply makeup.

Micro Mark sells a vacuum attachment kit designed to clean plastic models that would work very well. It attaches to your vacuum and reduces the attachments down in size so you can clean small models. Good thing to have if you have a lot to clean. Otherwise the Q-tips are a good idea, also the wipes for eyeglasses are good too, they won't scratch.

Another good option would be to let the kid play with them in the bathtub once in a while. But you want to put them in a warm place after so they dry off fast and not get rusty. (probably not a good idea for "precision" series)

I just run mine under hot water and use a soft brush gently. Let them dry and put back on the shelf. The other option is letting the Little Cowman play with them. He is careful and gets most most of the dust knocked off.

Aloha, I would use a sable fur brush and low pressure compressed air. Brush it with the sable fur brush and then the air. The reason for the low pressure air, is so it won't lift off the decals or whatever else high pressure would remove.

Compressed air is good (gently) then follow up with End Dust and a small 1/4 inch wide paint brush. Brush the End Dust around well with the paint brush and it will come out like brand new. Jack

Being an ex-model builder myself I have to agree with IAOliver. Compressed air is the way to go when it comes to cleaning off dust. I haven't built any new ones in many years but that's the way I keep the ones I've got on display clean. The good thing for me is all mine are army tanks and other equipment so a little dust simply makes them look more realistic....

What about compressed air also? It's basically the same thing as usally an air compresser but in a can. Can find it in the officer section of my stores around here. -Dan

Check in the computer section. I know Walmart has it. Used for cleaning keyboards.
