Hi Ben,

Methanol and lye make methoxide, a very nasty deadly chemical. Be sure you know what your doing when messing with these chemicals.

Journey Forever has about the best info on the net on biodiesel. Factual and to the point.

There is a big bio-fuel plant starting to be built in Durant, OK. It is going to be located in the middle of town where a feed mill had been for years. Wonder how this will effect the area around it? With the price of gas/diesel nowadays, something (other than the ol' pocketbook) has got to give. I sure hope this works out for the best, then maybe it will become the latest "thing".

A few years ago, used cooking oil was worth money and the refineries would buy it from the fast food outfits, and so the thieves got into the used cooking oil business. They would keep the fast food used cooking oil tanks pumped dry, then the refineries quit buying used cooking oil and started charging for picking it up, and the thieves quit stealing it. And now the Bio fuel people will start buying used cooking oil, the refineries will start buying used cooking oil, and the thieves will start stealing used cooking oil.

There have been several news articles and TV reports of folks doing that. Usual source of oil is used fry oil from fast food places. Treatment with sodium hydroxide seems quite simple, and apparently produces a very usable fuel product. One younf fellow has been running his VW diesel on it for some time. Exhaust reportedly smells like french fries!

I saw it on "Trucks" today too. Didn't catch the address, thanks for posting it. Pretty nice setup he used.
