I had to get a fuel level sending unit for my dodge cummins so I called one dealership and they said 160 for a new unit but it would take a day to get there. So I called a second one because I needed to get back on the road ASAP. They said 130 for a used one and it would be ordered. Itdid'nt come when it was supposed to so I called a 3rd and 4th dealership and I was quoted 260 and 305 for the same part! What's up with that!? All are dodge dealerships so I figured they ought to be within 10-15$ of each other. Have you guys run into that alot with tractor and vehicle parts? I'm gonna be bugging a lot of parts guys for prices from now on. Maybe if the parts guys are too busy giving price quotes to sell parts dealerships will just sell parts for reasonable prices so people can just worry about getting the right part.

I gave up on Dodge trucks a long time ago. My experience has been the authorized Dodge dealers will rip you off. I've had better luck with GM. Good luck.

Is it possible one dealership quoted on just the fuel guage sending unit, and the higher quote was on the more popular complete "fuel module", the complete assembly, read to drop in the tank? Perhaps the simple sending unit has been discontinued, and subs to the complete unit.

The lowest price was for the complete module. I have'nt had any major break downs with my '95 2500, just some pain in the butt stuff.

Suppliers can charge a customer one of seven different prices based on the type of customer. Example: Wholesaler, jobber, dealer, retail, etc. The different prices are based on how much return business a customer can give them. The more business, the lower the price. If you can establish an account at a supplier with a certain level of business, you get a lower price. If the dealer thinks you're a one-time customer, you'll probably get charged the higher price.

What would really suprise you on equipment is how many of the more common items like filters, hydraulic components, etc are bought by the OEM from other suppliers and used on their equipment with no changes. Then when you need one of these pieces and go back to the OEM you get them at an extremely marked up price. There are some deals through the dealerships simply due to the high volume of some items they buy and the huge discount they can get from the actual supplier and then pass on but these items are more the exception than the rule. I bought a hydraulic motor for a piece of equipment the other day...$900+ from the OEM, $360+ for the same motor through our local hydraulic supply house. On the subject of filters I read a thing the other day in the back of a NAPA filter catalog that was really interesting. I believe the name of the act was the "Warren-Magnison (sp?) Act". In effect it's a federal "law" that strictly forbids OEM's from requiring the use of a specific brand/type of filter to retain a factory warranty unless they provide the filter/s in question free of charge. So next time a dealership tells you that they won't honor a warranty because you didn't use a specific filter throw this back at them because in ot honoring the warranty they are in violation of a Federal law.

Thanks for the correction. I knew there was a Magn....son in there somewhere but I keep my NAPA catalogs at work where they really do me some good, not at my already too cluttered computer desk.

Went to one auto parts store to get a Wix fuel filter for the 3 cyl Kubota diesel in a golf course mower at work. 1st place the price was $24.63. The second dealer 3 miles away price was $17.98.Exact same filter from Wix at both places.

I called three different Kubota dealers in my area for a price quote on a part. The prices: $212., $156., $87. I priced a gearshift knob for a Kubota; $3.00, and the little round piece of aluminum foil that goes on the end of the knob to show the shift pattern; $7.00.

Our local Dodge dealer asked me if I had purchased my truck there,(N0) before he gave me a part price... Over $50.00 for a fuel filter for 2001 Dodge w/ Cummins. I said no thanks, & by the way, I will never even look here again. I went home & ordered filters from Geno's Garage.
