I just bought a 24 foot gooseneck trailer would like to install an electric winch on the front. Does anyone have any thoughts on best and most relieable way to connect to the 12 volt power source?

Keith did exactly, or almost what I am planning to do, thought why weld or drill and bolt something on the trailer that I don"t want out in the snow and rain, have a nice hitch on the back of the truck and just pop it into the reciever put in the pin and you are ready to go, never going to pull the hitch off the truck, at least mine wont come off, you should have a heavy one there also, just planning on making my bracket to be a couple inches above the deck of the trailer, I think it should work good.

Here is how I mounted mine. I do not mount my battery to trailer I leave it in the back of my truck. Battery is a commercial 12 volt. My winch is a 10,000 Warn winch. I have all the measurements and type of metel used. I also can use it in my pickup reciever. If you would like the rest of the pictures, mearsuremnt and materials required just email me..HTH...Keith

I ran a 2/0 cable from the batteries on my truck and ran it to the rear bumper with a heavy duty cable connector, then I put a shorter cable on the trailer. Works great no battery to charge always ready when I need it it..Jim

I installed a c-channel between the two main beams at the front of the trailer. I am going to put the battery in the chain box and wire in the battery to the trailer wiring system to keep it charged. As a precaution, I welded part of the connection and the welded the nuts to prevent them from being removed.

just a thought if using winch a lot will charging wire become a source from other battery, if so will burn up wire or connections...wire a relay that will pickup(putting charging wire on nc contacts) when you are working winch thus dropping out charging wire...have nice day may god bless

I mounted my winch a bit uncoventionally and I love it. I mounted a receiver tube (like on the back of your truck) in the bed of my trailer. I then mounted the winch onto a drawbar. This allows for me to take the winch out of the weather and lockit up as well. I also can slide it into the rear of my truck in case I need to winch myself out of something. (Did that this past winter in a slushy field) I made a pigtail with battery clips that is long enough to reach my truck battery for this. Ordinarily the winch is powered by an auto battery I keep in the front toolbox. In the back of the toolbox is a trolling motor plug and it matches a pigtail on the winch. To keep the battery charged I ran a charging wire through my trailer plug in using the accessory pin. It works great. If you want any pics just let me know. I also got a wireless remote system for it and that works slick too. I can operate the winch anywhere within 50 feet. I always got a bit nervous being close to the cable sometimes.

I just set a 12V deep cycle on the back of the truck. The leads on my winch are long enough to reach the battery. I just disconnect them before moving the trailer.

I know a guy that mounted a winch on a 20 ft. tilt bed. It is an #8000. He also has a battery next to it. It will drag about anything on the trailer.
