I baled some small square bales of corn stalks last fall for my steers, (and my sisters darn goats:(
worked better then straw I think. so I was thinking about selling some this fall, but what should I sell them for? I live near south bend IN. the ones I baled last year where about 55lbs
Thanks! Tim Shultz

I was reading an article the other day in the farm bureau paper about this. They approached it from the angle that the corn stalks will have about 1/3 the nutritional value of alfalfa hay. It's value then should be about 1/3 that of alfalfa hay. This might be a place to start anyway.

I am from North Liberty, just a stones throw away. We round baled some corn stalks two years ago and the beef cows ate it better than their hay! Steers loved it too. We sold some for the price of first cutting hay which would be in the area of about $2.50 a bale now.

I seem to recall we got $2.00/bale for the ones we baled..... ..... But nobody could get straw that year.
