OT: Another synthetic oil question

I've been watching the posts on synthetic oil and have learned alot from you all. I know that Amsoil and Mobil 1 are true synthetic. But I also see other brands that are advertising that they are full synthetic, as opposed to a synthetic blend. So the first question is, are there now other brands besides Amsoil and Mobil 1 that are true synthetic? If not, what does "full synthetic" mean? My next question concerns my two four wheelers. I have a Polaris and an Arctic Cat. Both sell synthetic oil under their brand name. Polaris especially reccomends their own oil. My question is, how do I tell if these manufacturers brand oils are true synthetic? What I want is a true synthetic oil, for 4 wheelers, that I can buy convieniently. I know where I can get Mobil 1, but they have many different formulas. It is hard to get the correct formula and the correct weight. I've not been able to find an Amsoil dealer locally. Lastly, I have purchased a new pick-up. When should I start using synthetic oil in it? I'm planning on starting at 10,000 miles. Does that sound about right? Thanks for the help and info.

I believe Royal Purple and Redline offer real group IV synthetics also.
On the 4wheelers the only question would be if they have a wet clutch and if the motor oil is shared by the drive system. I'd bet both of those answers are no so I'd have no hesitation using Mobil 1. What weight would depend on what the original weight was spec'd by the manufacturer. I'd use Mobil 1 5w40 in most everything, its the highest rated oil they sell in the states. I use the 10w30 in my pickup because the Speedee Lube place in town only stocks that and 5w30. I do the changes in my Mercedes car myself because its pitifully easy and I can use 5w40 which Wally World carries in the handy 1gal jugs.

Amsoil makes nice products but I'm not a fan of their marketing scheme and since its more of a pain for me to get it and since Wally World has the handy 1gal jugs I use Mobil 1.

On the pickup, I guess I'm divided, part of me says 10,000 is plenty. Part of me says things are hopefully still wearing in and I wouldn't want to run extended oil changes yet, and if I'm not running extended oil changes why am I using synthetic oil? If it were mine I'd probably wait another 10,000 miles, but I drive alot so that'd only be about 6 months...

Like John says , you can switch over when new. I know someone who just bought a brand new GM pick-up. At first oil change the truck was changed over to Mobil #1 at the dealer.

Only a synthetic oil made from a POA (polyalfaolelefin) base like Mobil 1 or Amsoil are true synthetic oils. the others are highly refined mineral oil which makes them as bogus as the HP ratings on electric motors over the last 15 years.
Many engines like the Dodge viper and many models of Porsche and MB have Mobil 1 in them when they are built. There is absoutly no problem with breaking in a new engine with true synthetic oil in the crankcase. I would put in synthetic oil at the first oil change. That way you can see if you have any warrenty problems, such as oil consumption before you switch. I have switched engines to Mobil 1 at as little as 50 miles to as many as 160,000 with no problems,no oil leaks on high mile engines either. Check out the link to the Mobil 1 site, they have a good true/false section that clears up much of the bs about synthetic oil.
I have used nothing but Mobil 1 since the late 70's.
