PTO Lever

I have a JD 03 series tractor. When I moved the PTO lever forward to engaged the PTO the BushHog was silent. Nothing! It felt like the PTO lever was coming off in my hand. When I shut down to investigate, it seemed that the bolt that holds the pivot point arm (at the bottom of the PTO lever) has backed out. After repeated attempts to thread it back in, I pulled the bolt completely out to inspect the threads. To my surprise, the bolt was sheared off leaving most of the threaded part inside the case.

This is a very beefy bolt and the PTO lever is very flimsy! I don’t understand how this could happen. Someone please enlighten me. In the meantime, I’ll wait for the dealer to pick up the tractor as I watch the calendar tick away my fall planting window of opportunity. Is it always a race against the clock?

Any manual or alternative way to engage the pto so it’s engaged all the time until I can fix? Any suggestion is much appreciated.

Thanks.
