How serious is 90 weight gear oil that gets sprayed in the eye? Dummy here decided to drop the gear oil out of cutter bar of disc moco; just as it hissed & sprayed I realized that after a 3 hr mow I should have removed the filler plug first.

Thanks for the info everyone. Found a bottle of eye drops & flushed it some. Guess the older I get the dumber I'ze is. Got to get book out & check for a breather on the cutterbar case as when the plug came out the gear oil hissed! Do discbine cutter gear housings have a breather? Hesston 1320.

Cannot be very high pressure or any seals would have blown out.
Your eye issue is the ONLY part of your whole body with live cells on the surface - all your skin surface is already dead. A good rinse should be all that is needed, but don"t wait around if problem persists as there may have been crud or chemicals, that could make things worse, in the bottom of the box.
Hindsight thought for the future - Dummy could easily have avoided problem by wearing safety specs or goggles.
Always a good idea even if it only stops most falling dust getting in eye. Us spec wearers have an advantage, as long as lenses are shatter resistant. BTW - There should be a breather somewhere on that box which is blocked?
Regards, and be careful, RAB

A few years ago when I went to the doc to have a metal sliver removed from an eye he told me the eye can mend itself remarkably fast but it can also go bad remarkably fast. If it"s still sore by morning, go the doc. Jim

Because I'm often a schmo, I'd probably try to rinse it and be done with it, and that's why I'm a schmo. But, my serious advice to you is to go to the ER. Don't play with it, and the sooner the better. Only have one set of eyes, don't screw around. Pay the few $$$ now to insure have a long life of good sight.

I'm Polish, and expected to do dumb things, but my excuses are not yours, so GO TO THE ER.

Mark

if it sprayed with enough pressure to penetrate the eye you are in big trouble. otherwise I guess you can rinse good and see how you are in the morning.

Depends on the pressure. Since its your eye I'd say go to the ER just to be safe. When its my eye I usually flush with large amts of water or saline, wait 4 hrs and if its still bothering me I call the HMO and see if they will let me go to the ER or make me wait 2 weeks to see a Dr. If it actually hurts or my vision is blurry to where I cant call them I go anyway. Eyes are too precious. I'm pretty stubborn about the Dr. tried to wait it out last fall to save an ER copay when I had an ATV accident. Glad I went, my collar bone was broken in 2 places among other things (and hard a$$ here drove himself to the ER). So far taken 3 operations to get it back to half way right. Eyes are a lot more special.
