Back in 1997 (I think) I discovered this website and forum. Since that time, I have spent many, many hours here reading most of the forums, and occasionally posting to ask a question or to chime in on an answer for someone. I even had an article published, which I hope has helped someone besides me convert from 6 to 12 volts on an old Ford tractor.

Last night, I tried to post here, and was informed that I could no longer be TommyD!! Maybe I missed something, but I never knew we had to REGISTER to use these forums.
I have many posts previously here that I commonly search to revisit, as well as some aquaintences that I have made from this board. These are not a moot point, since I'm no longer Tommy D!

Also, out of common courtesy, I would never REGISTER a name that was already being used by someone else for this long. But that's just me.

I value this forum much too much to say any more here, but this was not a plesant discovery for me last night.

I'll pick another name (guess I'll HAVE to now) and keep on reading as long as the moderator allows.

Sincere Thanks!
Tommy D (D=Duvall)
Dalton, Ga.

Yeah-I used to be AZ Jack. Lost it twice-if you have deleted cookies it seems to lose your registration also. Check with Kim and she can probably reinstate you. Unless you changed something on your end you should not lose your registration.

Some months ago, there was a fellow on Tractor Tales who went and reserved up everybody's name that had not already done so, just for spite. It took some hue and cry to Miss Kim from a bunch of us to figger out what was going on and to give us back our handles. Since then, we've had to register to make sure that doesn't happen again. You can write to Miss Kim and see if she will help you out. Give her a good sob story!

I posted here for quite a while on different one's of the forums using my middle name, then all at once I found someone had also posted a couple of times (nothing bad but not me) and as soon as the regestering was avaible I put my name in and the computor remembers it and I never have to put in my password that happens to be anouther part of my name

So sorry, but I would give the benefit of doubt to a new person that did not intend harm. Guess I'd better register mine. Don't want there to be two of me. One is enough.

Hi Tommy,

A couple years ago we had few new guys come on the forums and raise hate and discontent by using other peoples name/handle. Shortly there after Kim went to a registered user name/handle option.

That user name is kept on the YtMag server so no one else can use that name without the password. How the user name gets on the server is by your posting on the forum. Your asked for a user name and password, then only you can use that ID.

I would contact Kim and see if TommyD was used one time or is still in use. If it was just used one time, she might let you have the name back.

Hi Tommy,

I just noticed on another post you made that you used

Tommy D.

I wonder if "TommyD" is being read as a new user by the YtMag server?

Apparently, there aren't many SCUBA Diving Instructors that have a passion for old farm equipment like I do, so It's gonna be "SCUBAInstr".

The journey continues, and I gotta go post an update on the "War of the Racoons" on the Crop Talk board.

Have a nice day all,

Unusual combination! I'm into scuba myself but not into instruction! Just got into tractors myself! Where are you at? I'm from coastal carolina, the graveyard of the Atlantic! Great diving here plus lots of old farms! Lotsa fun to try to identify some of the old equipment under the old lean-to's and sittin' in the fields! Later! Scott

Hi Tommy,

The problem is how would you know for sure nobody was using that name if you just started here?
Theres lots of boards, maybe the person using TommyD is only on a board that you never read or happens to have never seen you post.
Thats why I use my college nickname, its very rarely taken on any board.

To register look above your post on the second screen, it'll have a "set password" box.

Yea, I really don't like registering on any of the forums I am on. But the day this one added the option, I registered my name - mine's too common, and didn't like the thought of what happened to you.

Aby time you enter a new message, the software here either sees you as a registered user, or asks if you want to register the name you are using????? Would look pretty straight forward to do so, enter a password & so on.....

If Tommy D. did a deep virus scan and threw out all his cookies, he likely didn't remember he was registered previously, and the tossed out cookie got rid of the automatic registering his computer did.

All he has to do is re-enter his password one time, a new cookie will be made & he will be good to go.

?????

Is there a way to "register" a user name? I tried searching the site and 'nada'.....

Long story short-(I sort of came accross a pic on Ebay of something and my mind went "Hey, I have one of those...is that what it is..." So I searched on Google and "Yakima Hitch" and ended up here.....)

I'm interested in finding out what other old JD parts in the pile are actually goes w/ what.... I don't want to throw away something that could be 'needed' or salvaged..... (family has a JD 60, Farmall Super A, had an old B, but that was traded to buy the 60 YEARS ago.... LONG, LONG, LONG before I was around...)
