Hi Guys,

Been rainin' like crazy for two or three days here, so figured this was the perfect time to tie into this ol' sod.

Forgot how tough that sod pulls tho. Gonna take awhile clear down in 3rd gear like this. :>(

It looks to me like you are awful short on rocks in that field. Can I bring a couple truck loads over and drop them off for ya?

I hope you able to get it knocked back down soon are you are going to have one terrible cloddy mess. Plow when damp is the best way to ask for cloddy ground, unless you are going to let it lay all winter thenthats another story other wise i would sprayed it and planted. after all its the net dollars your after isn't it.

Now I see where the term "plow pan" comes from. Since we use chisels here we don't have it.

Have seen pictures of humoungus rippers to rip it up. Takes a really big tractor to pull one.

Your rows are real nice, straight and even. You must have had a lot of experience.

Nice pics as usual.

I can see your exhaust on the right in the top pic. Working her pretty good in 3rd gear. You are running a 966 didn't you say?

I too, like Indy, notice that your tractor is spotless and you said it was raining.

To be able to plow with shiny shares in the rain, the ground must be really dry.

Just a yakin. Later.

Mark

OK... I TRIED to just let it slide on by, but being the inquisitive type, I just HAD to ask....

How can you plow in ground that's just been rained on, and NOT get so much as the first speck of dirt ON THE TRACTOR????

It's spotless....

Is this actually a photoshop picture?

Do you have a full-time clean-up crew that spit-shines your equipment the instant it stops rolling?

And finally, when will it stop? Are you going to plow up the entire state of Nebraska?

(Send rain... Looks like Nebraska is getting substancially more than the great state(s) of Kentucky and/or Indiana.)

Hi Ya Ol' Devil!,

These IH tractors are so big and powerful that they set way above any soiling effects of the farming operation. :>)

Actually, it was raining pretty darned hard out there yesterday and you should see her from the platform on down. Can't even tell what color it is now. :>(

When will it stop? When I get this tired old ground flipped upside down, I guess. :>)

Allan, when you get done the rings will be seated and that old tractor will be running at its best.

Yep, rain is a very good thing. We are very dry and hot here and the grass is burning up where not watered. Are you getting much slippage with the 966 or can you keep er locked up? What will that soil do when the hot sun gets to it, or you goin to roll it down asap? Migraine

Good question. What do you do next on a field that is that rough?

Hi Mark,

I will let mother nature work her magic over winter with the moisture, the freezing and the thawing.

Next summer, this "mess" will have "mellowed" and will become a perfect seedbed in one fast operation with the use of this little sweetheart. :>)

Hi Pard,

It is working just right (at least, I remembered the part 'bout plowin' in the rain).

This will lay here now 'til probably early next june or so and that's why I wanted it left rough so the winds can't take it.

Got another 55 or 60 acres to go on this heavy stuff then next spring I'll plow down another patch of wheat stubble. Should gain a gear there, tho and I'll be able to leave a smooth finsh on that too. :>)

Hey buddy, you got more grass in those headlands than we got in our whole pasture. Ifn you fence those off maybe we could work out a deal to graze those off for ya. :-) Harley

Hi Harley,

Yeah, I should have finished that remaining side off, but it ties to an ajoining 40 acres which has to be upset also.

Couldn't just plow the two fields together like I wanted, because the prior owners still have a bunch of hay stacks in the way yet. :>(
