I've just bought a small farm, 11 acres, 6 acres under woodland, the rest in meadows and orchards. I've the opportunity of buying a Case 245, about ten years old, 900 hours, to help with the work needed to develop and restore the place. I'm a complete novice when it comes to tractors and have tried in vain to find information on the 245 but there seems to be a dirth of information available. Can anyone offer advice on this particular tractor, it's reliability, quirks, good points and whether it would likely be the right machine to help with clearing woodland, digging foundations for barns, to relocate a house, installing a network of field drains. Other tasks in due coruse will be to resow the orchard and meadow grass and renew fencing around the property.

Funny to read this post, when I bought mine about five years ago I had not luck finding any informtion either. I bought mine with 1100 hours on the clock. It was a local original purchase and trade in. Mine is a 4wd drive, had the original tires etc. I also bought land and built a house. This was the single best purchase I have made. I have 6 acres with a 1 acre pond, and this little tractor has been used for every task you can think of. I have had no issues at all except issues I have cause. Example: I use the tractor and mower to cut down the cattails on the edge of my pond when pond is frozen. Last year the ice broke, tractor rolled over on it's side in the water and kept on running. This resulted in the throw out bearing locing up and the starter drags a little. I have a factory front loader on mine which I have used for everything. If you do not have a loader get a boom pole for the rear, it works great for lifting anything you can not. They make many versions of back hoe attachment for digging, the front loader does not work the best at this.Don't get me wrong it will but it takes twice as long and it is harder on the tractor. I have not regrets, good luck.

I bought the CASE 245 4WD tractor with factory installed loader about 12+ years ago, I can't remember exactly, but it was brand new. It has a little over 1000 hrs on it now and is still running great. I use it to mow fields with a brush hog, and also plow snow. We remove the bucket on the loader and have welded a together a frame to mount a 5 ft plow in place of the bucket, to plow snow here in MA. I also have a log splitter that mounts on the 3 point hitch and am thinking about buying a small wood chipper too, if I can talk my wife into it.

We have 30A of land some fields and the rest woodland. I have had no problems with the machine at all. What I do is change all the fluids and filters every year. This includes the oil + filter, hydrolic fluid, fuel filter, air filter, and gear oil in the front axel, as well as grease up all the fittings. I think that is why it has run so good for me. I have no plans to sell it. I hope you have the same good luck I have had so far.

/Dann
